Chapter One There is much to be said for beginnings and where to start w/ this I wonder.. I think I shall start at earliest memory... Towers rise at four points and at the center stands a fifth. The center tower suspends a crystal and powers the rest of the city that surrounds it. Border fields are generated by these towers.to keep the city hidden. Not many know of this shining city. Its people lead a peaceful life because they are guarded by very strong wards. In the midst of the city runs a small girl. Tiny for her age, her long black hair flows out unbound behind her. She dodges the guards at the western tower by the sea and ducks under a hedge and into a small crack in the wall around the tower. She crawls silently thru the wall her breath catching when she sees the priestess out of her tower walking the grounds followed closely by a guard. Holding her breath painfully, as the lady walks close by, she scrunches back closer to the wall and listens. "We can find no one that matches the discription you gave us Lady. There is no girl here in the city that fits." He stands at a relaxed stance. His gaze watchful and alert. "There is no one here that can take your place." His voice becomes softer. " You must choose among the well born." "I will not choose an insufferable weakling to take my place here." Her voice weak with fatigue trembles. " I know she is here. I have seen her." The Priestess turns to face her guard. Her eyes become intense. "She is drawn to me as I am drawn to her. Even now I feel her presence." "Lady, I have searched everywhere." The guard sighs. " Where else would you have me search?" A small snap of a twig sounds loudly to Aisa's ears as she scrunches back more, realizing she had made it snap. The guard instantly becomes alert, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "Lady, its time. Your health cannot stand much outside the tower. Please return." Aisa watches as he helps the woman to her feet and escorts her inside. Glancing down at her hands Aisa remembers what she came here for. She could feel the woman's grief and pain. There was also lonliness deep in her heart. She could feel it as if it was her own. Aisa didnt realize why they were searching for this girl. But knew that she must somehow alieve this wonderful woman's suffering. The necklace wasnt much. She stared again at her small creation. Made with fishing twine and shells she had dove to get herself, this small delicate necklace wasnt worth much. But maybe, just maybe, it would let the Western Priestess know someone did care. Aisa crept closer to the edge of the shrub line. No one knew this lil crack was here. She had dreamed of it one eve and sought it out the next morning to find that indeed it was here. She had been visiting ever since, not meaning any harm .. just drawn to the tower. Quickly peeking out and finding no one there she rushed out into the courtyard tward the center where the fountian was and the bench. She laid the necklace wrapped in a note that it was for the Priestess, on the bench and turned and ducked quickly back into the shrubbry and through the wall making her way back as she came avoiding the guards. Aisa didnt see the guard just beyond the fountain who had been waiting. He was waiting for her to show herself, and, she did as he suspected. His directive was to serve his Lady. And serve her he would. Her command upmost in his mind. He had found his target. His cloak swirling around him, he turned on his heel. He now knew who she was. The next step was to retrieve her. As his Lady willed. So it would be, for all time and into the beyond. ~end section one~
Section Two Running back through the streets as quick as her bare feet would carry her, Aisa looked up at the sun. She had stayed too long at the tower and there would be trouble for her if she was caught. She arrived at a small dwelling on the edge of the warf. Looking around sharply and seeing no one she ducked inside to the kitchen. A small gasp of a cry of pain was all that escaped as a hard cuff to the right side of her face was delivered by her father. Aisa knew no more till midnoon. "You shouldnt have hit her so hard. She will be out most of the day." Her mother said tears in her eyes. Aisa was thier only daughter. The rest had been sons. And her husband didnt even want her. Aisa as well as her mother was worked very hard in a home full of all men. "She is small your lucky you didnt kill her." "She will be ok." Her father growled. "She went to the tower again after I told her not to." Scowling he picked her up roughly and threw her onto her mat. "All of the well born are leaving. It is said the old Priestess is looking for a successor. No one wants that for thier daughters. Not even me. She may be lazy like you. But she is my daughter." He turned on his heel and left. Tears in her eyes, Mandilyn went and got cool water and began bathing her daughter's face. " He may be crewl sweetening, but, he is right." She wispered. "It is dangerous to go there." ______ Tall and made of metal some wispered of him. He was the best at what he did. Mercinary they called him. Loyal he was. He would die for his Lady. They all would. Silver eyes glanced over the few men he had selected. It wouldnt take much to retrieve the small girl. Still he didnt want any mistakes. He shook his head just slightly remembering the girl and her stature. So small for what they needed. His mouth took on a grim line. Well, she was the one. And she would be his Lady. He would protect her as he did the one who now sat in power. With a slight comand they were off. Determination set the line of all the men he had gathered. They would achieve thier objective. ______ It was sunset. Aching and sore, Aisa sat on the edge of the pier mending a net. Lip swolen from the cuff her father gave her and her ears ringing still, she bent to her task, her feet in the water. The light was fading. Her hands shook as she bent to see the stiches needed to repair the net. Boot falls sounded on the pier. Strong and sure they were, loud to her hearing in the silence. She didnt even look up. Fear racked her body as she took the stiches faster. She glanced at the water. If necessary she could jump in and take the path to the caves below. It was risky.. but anything to stay away from her father's anger. She kept her eyes centered on her work. The man stopped in front of her. "Child.." the man began, his voice soft, pure melody. Gentleness to her in his tone, he continued. " You have been summoned." Aisa looked up to see who was addressing her. Fear coursed through her when his gentle countinance changed to one of pure rage. "Bring me the parents!" The man standing before Aisa bellowed. " Now!" He turned sharply on his heel and left her on the pier. Aisa watched as her mother was drug from thier home and made to kneel infront of the man. Then there was a crash from the house followed by another and then another. Finally her father was drug from the house half unconscious hanging in the middle of two huge soldiers. The man walked up to her mother and jerked her chin up to look into her eyes. What he saw was fear. But, also the marks of years of abuse. He then moved to her father. At his nod he was dropped at his feet. "Get up!" The command was issued in words of iron and her father stood shakily. " What gives you the right to beat on those weaker then you?!" The man demanded. Watching all of this Aisa stood and studied the man. Confusion ruled her mind. Her head was still hurting and her eyes were blury. What she could see was a tall man.. so very much taller then her. He had wide shoulders and carried a long blade. He was dressed all in black and had long black hair that was tied in the back. He was terrifying to her. Her ears ringing she couldnt hear much of what was being said.. Then the man backhanded her father causing his head to spin around. "You will be watched" he growled loudly. "It is in respect of my new Lady I do this." Aisa watches as the man turned toward her. That was it. Flight mode took over. Turning quickly she dove into the ocean swimming for the bottom. Cursing he sprinted to the pier and dove after her. His large body strong from intense conditioning he quickly overtook her. Grabbing the small struggling girl with one arm and swimming to the top using the other he burst out of the ocean near the pier and grabbed the waiting hand of his next in command who helped him up onto the pier w/ his struggling burden. Aisa wasnt waiting for explaination. She struggled for all she was worth. But, the man had more strength then she could ever hope to overcome. So she took the other out. She bit his exposed arm. Instead of reacting by letting her go as her father would the man shifted her in his arms like a baby so she was looking into intense silver and said softly.. gently.. " You will sleep now my Lady." As the words were spoken so it was. Aisa could not remain conscious. Eyes narrowed he glared at her father. "I hold you responsible for her condition. See you make no more mistakes!" Then in a firm voice he demanded of his men. The blanket from the litter wrap her tightly see that nothing of her shows. Aisa was wrapped tight and placed carefully in the litter. Not even a hair one showed outwardly. The sun well down concealed thier path away from the sea. ~end section two~
Three She couldnt move. She couldnt breath. Fear coursed through her.. Where was she?.. Strong arms picked her up and then laid her down. One quick motion sent her spinning out of the blanket.. and rested her at the Priestess' feet. Looking up in confusion she stared at the woman she had come to love, noticing that her necklace was around the priestess' neck. She then looked around her.. Soldiers... Soldiers were there as well. The man in black standing not far away from where she sat. Backing quickly away gasping.. fear in her mind and body Aisa tried to put as much distance between her and him only to come up against the feet of another soldier. Standing up quickly, her mind only fixed on one thing escape she turned and ran for the window, which was quickly blocked. They knew before she did anything what she would do! Tears started to form in her being welling up in her eyes. The soldiers felt it sharply. The one in black began to act. "STOP!" It was a command. Regal. It brooked no argument. It came from the Lady. All stopped thier actions. Except Aisa. Her eyes sought furtively any escape. "Come here little one." Softly.. spoken, it was still a command. Aisa found herself moving tward the Lady. Mentally willing herself to stop she forced herself still. Pain sliced through her head. "Then I will come to you." This said weakly. Almost no energy was left in the Lady of the Western Tower. But this was necessary. Standing weakly she made her move tward the younger girl, her legs shaking w/ the effort. Her guard made a move to go to help but a sharp look and motion of her hand stayed him. Grimly he watched.. His inablity to help tearing him to shreds. Stumbling off the dias the Lady fell hard to the floor. Gasps sounded loud in the stillness of the chamber. Looking quickly around Aisa found no one comming to her aid. She moved timidly to her aid. Helping her to sit up took all of her strength as the older woman was much larger then she was. "No.. lets just sit here for awhile" Soft and weak was her voice but still beautiful. "Tell me your name." "My name is Aisa". It was all she could do. This woman that she had watched from afar now so close to her. She felt as if they were joined. "And your age?" It was another softly spoken question. But Aisa replied to it. " I am 15 seasons" "You are very young." The Lady said placing her tremling hand on Aisa's right cheek. "Who hit you?" Concern and anger crossed the lady's face. Power flickered there in her eyes. So weak was she. But something in Aisa told her not to discount her. Aisa began to tremble. This time the guard stepped forward. "It was taken care of Lady. The man will be watched. and any futher misdeeds will be met with in the usual way. The man was spared in difference to the Lady." His jesture was one of honor tward the girl in front of her. Nodding the Lady looked back at the girl. She looked directly into her eyes and placed her hand on her cheek. Warmth coursed through Aisa's face and the pain was gone. Wonder lit the younger girl's eyes. "You have been called to take my place." The Lady stated. " Do you know what that means?" Upon seeing the negative shake of the younger girl the Lady continued. " You must agree to stand w/ me at the dias. You must agree to serve the crystal. When you agree to do this you will take my place here." Her voice was weaker then before. Concern and worry coursed through Aisa. "Why do you need me to take your place here?" She could feel the trembling of the other woman. " You are doing a good job here." "My time has come little one." The older woman struggled to her feet and walked without help to a raised dias and placed her hands on the pedistals. "The field weakens and I havent the strength to hold it anymore. I am the weak link of the towers. Your time has come." She pleaded with her eyes. Now must be Aisa's choice. She could not compel her. "If i die without a successor, all of Atlantis will be vulnerable. Now is your time." She turned and faced the window, her hands resting on the dias... The crystal giving her strength. Now, only this time. The time spent at the dias did she feel strong. This was the last time. Aisa was terrified. The unknown before her, she stepped up to the dias. In her very being she knew that this was ment to be. Her hands found the pedistals as she took her place infront of the window and the Lady. Resting her hands on the Lady's she gazed up into the older woman's eyes.. Questions rocketed through her mind. Not from the Lady.. Not from the guards. But from the Crystal itself. Each she answered in acceptance... In her mind... a strange song began... There was nothing... and then... There was pain.. The guards flinched back shielding thier eyes as bright white light shot down from the point of the tower surrounding both women. Two screams echoed in the chamber becoming one. Light shot through the older woman to the younger. Everything that the older Lady was transfered to the younger. Light enfusing them both. In an instant of intense pain two screams became one. In an instant flare of light only one was left standing. Taken to rest within the crystal the older Lady became apart of all knowledge. She became apart of Aisa. In that instant. Aisa took her place. Bound forever to the crystal and the service of Atlantis. Gasping as the light and pain left, Aisa looked down and saw the remains of the Lady. At her feet rested all that was left, a pile of robes and her shell necklace. Looking but not seeing all around her, she lost consciousness and droped to the floor. ~End Section Three~

Four In sleep and dreaming comes knowledge. Knowledge of past, present and what also is to come. Lullabye sung by Crystal Form sings to those connected. There is no time here in sleep. There is only the joining, the communing of equals; of those who have been and those who are. Time now child for understanding. You came to us not knowing what to expect. But you knew when you took your vows of things to be. You knew what must be. And so it is. You are bound to us, connected to the whole. Your energy mingles with ours. And as such you are us. And we are you, forever bound in harmony and power. Yes we said power. You now have great asset to protect your people. But you also have a duty child. A duty to protect us. As we have a duty to protect you. Far away are we from our home. We came at the request of those who could no longer survive our climate. They learned from us the songs that gave them form. And, so will you. Dream little one .. heal.. all will be revealed in time.... in time... in time... Aisa woke w/ the echo ringing in her head. She no longer felt the pain of yesterday.. Was it yesterday? Where was she? Glancing around the room she was in she became aware of her surroundings. Slowly things came into focus. She was in a bed, an actual bed. Soft coverings wrapped her snugly into a safe cocoon. Her hair was clean and scented w/ an unknown fragrance and she wore the most beautiful sleeping shift she had ever seen. It was soft and gentle on her skin. The room was warm, but, not too warm. Soft lamp light lit the room showing her things she thought she would never be close to. There was a table covered in rich blue cloth and on it sat different types of stones. In her mind she knew what they were for. Where she got that information she didnt know. Everything in the room seemed familiar. But it shouldnt be. Should it?? She sat up slowly and heard voices outside of her room. A man's soft lyrical voice accompanied by a woman's mousy one. "Has she woken yet?" The male voice asked. Concern laced every timbre. Aisa could feel it in her being. Where and how she felt these things she didnt know. But it frightened her. "It has been too long. I worry for her health. She needs nourishment." "My Lord, " The woman's voice seemed haughty, knowing. "I have been through two priestesses." A shuffling sounded from outside the door as if someone shifted a piece of furniture. " She will waken when they are done with her. There wont be any damage to the girl." The woman sighed and continued. " I was once told by my mistress that they are taught in thier sleep. They are kept well during that time and not ever kept beyond endurance." The man's voice became hard with annoyance. " It is my duty and yours to see to her welfare." "And we will my Lord." The old woman sighed. " I have soup ready for her when she wakens." "It will have to be more then that." He said with concern. "She was ill treated." "She will have all the care she needs". Was the pert reply from the woman. Aisa shifted in the bed to get a better fix on her surroundings. She felt something pull at her awareness. A touch. She got out of the bed and went to the window. All of Atlantis was laid before her. She could tell she was in the top rooms of the tower. Another touch.. this time more insistant. A pull at her mind. She felt hunger for the first time since awakening and pushed it away. There was something there. "Oh eat!" was the order she got in her mind. "It was just me." "Who are you?" Aisa wispered. "I am Reline." the voice answered softly, as a mother would to her child. " I am priestess here in the Eastern Tower." A nudge was given to her from the voice. " I felt our sister go. And I for one approve of her choice in successor." Another nudge.. this time different. " Aisa summon your maid and eat. I will shield you from the others for a time until you get your bearings. They do not approve." "How do I summon her?" Aisa looked around tentively. "I see no way." "Reach with your mind." Was the soft reply. "Your guard, and maids are always in tune with you. It is needed." Aisa turned and looked at the door. She reached out and imeadiately her guard walked in followed by a woman bent with age. Aisa looked at the guard realizing who was standing before her. Fear coursed through her. It was the same man in black. The man stopped and restrained the woman as well when he felt her fear. "There is no need to fear me my Lady. I am at your command. My life, my sword and my strength yours to wield." He said softly, his voice musical. Kneeling before her he placed his sword at her bare feet with dignity. The woman gave a similar oath but added. " I have no strength and no sword. But I shall see to your needs as if you were my very own." Aisa's stomach growled causing her to blush. Instantly the guard snapped his fingers and the older woman jumped and scurried out of the room. He moved and picked her up gently and set her at a table she had not noticed before near a window. Aisa hadnt realized how weak her legs were until she was sitting in the chair. "You shall want for nothing Lady." Was the guard's reply to her unbidden thoughts of things to come. " You are now one of the most important treasures this city holds." Soup and fruit were brought to her then and she stared out of the window seeing birds fly by and even come and roost on the cill. Peace entered her mind and body. She was able to relax for the first time in all the times she could remember. end section four.
Five Aisa's gaze took in not only the window and the birds but also everything around her. She was amazed at the richness of the furnishings. Everything was beautiful and more then she ever dreamed she could be around. The sense of others close by drew her attention from her surroundings and more to within her own self and mind. Much was there for her to discover. The woman who had identified herself as priestess of the Eastern tower was there a forever presence in her mind. But, also there were three other presences that she had not took into herself as familiar. She reached out and immediately recieved a zap for her trouble. A gasp and a cry of pain brought her guard to her immeadately. She pressed her hand to her forhead in confusion and pain but waved off her guard. Somehow she knew that he couldnt help her with this. She felt a snicker in her mind and for the first time got angry. How dare she! Aisa focused her thoughts against the pain and drew from an inner source of power she hadnt realized existed and thrust back as hard as she could. The sound of a feminine yelp of pain in her mind gave her much satisfaction as she stood looking around for some cool water to wipe her face with to calm the pain in her head. As soon as the desire entered her mind it was before her, the bowl held by her ever present guard. Looking up in confusion at her guard then quickly reaching her hands into the bowl and pulling up cool water and pressing her hands to her forhead and eyes then sighing as the pain slowly went away, she asked softly, "How did you know this is what I wanted?" "When I took my oath to serve the Priestess here, " The guard began softly, reflectively. " I was bound to the crystal and to the Priestesses that serve." He put down the bowl on the table and placed a soft cloth into her seeking hands. "As I was bound to the Lady before you, now am I bound to you Priestess." Aisa looked up into the face of her guard. Then at his arm which was now bandaged. " I am sorry." She said placing her hand on his arm. Instantly a small bit of energy jumped from her hand to his arm. Surprised she jerked her hand away. He brought up his arm and unrapped it finding it completely healed. Flexing his arm and rotating his wrist he smiled his thanks. " My thanks my Lady. My sword arm is now good as new." Gasping and looking shocked Aisa retreated backwards to the table horrified at what she had done and not knowing how she did it. She turned and faced the window. Her breath not comming easily. This was going to take some getting used to she realized. Something came to her then. An alert in her brain. Not used to her new senses Aisa tried to push it away only to have it come back stronger. Panicked she turned and rushed past her guard who followed closely behind her. In her mind she could see where she needed to be. Her footsteps took her higher in the tower. Gasping from the climb an unconscous wave of her hands brought the heavy doors slamming open at her approach as she rushed into the chamber. Stepping up to the raised dias this time taking note of it more fully yet focused on her task at hand she placed her hands on the carved pedistals. Light grew around her hands and warmed her as the crystal's presence fully entered her mind. Using it's sight she focused on what she had felt. Indeed there was something to be wary of. Aisa sent her awareness out and found the other Priestesses also at thier posts. She felt thier combined strength enter her body as her strength entered thiers. Those that were trying the Western defenses found themselves fully pushed back and shocked as well to find that the Western tower was at full strength once more. She searched around the city .. finding that she could actually touch it's inhabitant's minds and found them going about thier day to day routine with no worry even though the crystal's flare was bright. Satisfied that all was well, Aisa withdrew from the crystal form and stepped off the dias. In a voice she found not her own the commanded. "Send men to the northeast part of our sector. We have had visitors. The lay stunned in the tall grasses near the river that leads to the sea." Aisa moved to sit on the padded chair that rested near the dias she had just left and sank weakly into it... Her shock registering plain in her manner and features gave her guard pause. She waved him off absently.. This was something to deal with on her own. "As you will it Lady so it is." He stated formally bowing before her. The guard turned smartly on his heel, his hand resting easily on the hilt of his blade he went outside the chamber to deliver orders. His commanding voice filling the hallway sent men running in every direction. A small girl brought her water in an earthen cup. "For your thirst Lady." she said meekly. Aisa reached for the cup but her guards bellow stopped her. "Do not!" he ordered of her. Then to the girl he said his voice harsh and commanding. "Never offer her something without you tasting it first!." His words were harsh and bit off in a clipped growl. The girl, trembling, put the cup to her lips and drank. "My apologies my Lady." Her voice filling with tears. " I drew it myself. It is my first day in the Tower. I would never harm you." The girl dropped to her knees this time offering the cup with raised arms and bowed head. Aisa rested her hand gently on the child's head and glared at her guard. She made sure she sent him her disapproval in a hard mental push. Softly and gently she said to the girl. ."It is alright little one. I am new too and we shall learn together." Then to her guard who now watched her closely. "I wish for this one to be at my side and serve me personally. See she is outfitted as one should who serves this closely." She smiled down at the girl and said softly. "Go with him and he will see you fit to be at my side." Aisa watched the girl go with her guard who returned in very short order to stand waiting at the door. Nothing more passed between them which Aisa was glad of. She retreated into her thoughts and ignored him. Life it seemed to her had become something she never dreamed. She reached out to the crystal and went into mediation leaving the physical world behind to begin learning. End section Five.
six~ Songs sung from ends of time to thine own ear teach of wonderous things both far and near. To thine own mind we send thoughts of what has been. See us in our rightful state and then view the past as we came we to the gate. To crystal field far away. A planet dies. Two suns once lit this proud world. Now only one survives. Hear the song of final breath. See us as we take our form. We live! not just shine are we. We live in thee. Teach me now the song to sing Skip not a note please let it ring I must join those who sing Those who's voices now weakening sing Those who sing the final songs Those who teach the little ones Breath of air my very last Sing the song of ages past Ring the notes loud and clear Join with others soul and voice The song we sing with no choice Some shall wing away Others shall stay and sing The final song of those to weak or those to young To forever lock us living in crystal form Safe from cold safe from harm Teach me now so that the notes carry on Winging through the ages past Teaching those that live the notes to last We sing now not with human tongue Voices ring on crystal rung Songs of ages past teaching the skill we once possessed Listen and learn miss not a note and sing along with us during rest Aisa woke curled in the padded chair she had retreated to. A thick, soft blanket wrapped around her and her head resting on a soft pillow. Darkness had fallen and her guard stood where she had last seen him, his eyes unfocused and staring far into nothing. She shifted and sat up noticing that the child she had taken to befriend also rested at her feet now clothed in a pretty blue shift and wore soft slippers. Her hair was brushed and clean and it shone w/ brilliance and pretty blue ribbons. Aisa touched the child with her mind and found her immediately allert and recognising her mistress's hunger and thirst she did a quick exit on soft padded feet. "Careful you mite!" her guard growled as the small child rushed passed him " Dont spill your lady's supper on the way back and take care not to knock anyone over!" "You are far to hard on her" Aisa, her voice soft as the wind admonished. "She is young and will learn." "Lady, your choice for a companion should have come from the girls a bit older and closer to your age." The guard said his voiced softened when he addressed her. " you will find the need of a mind older soon." "I will be fine." Was the reply he got. "Lady," The guard began firmly. " I must needs speak with you on some matters." When he had her attention he continued. "You will need to come to the audience window of the tower tomarrow on the rising. It has become known of the change. The people must see that your predicessor did not die without a successor." When she nodded absently and rose from her chair to stare out the window he continued again. " There will also be a closer audience. But before that happens, I will introduce you to a new guard I have chosen for you. He will be here to guard you when I cannot be." "Why must I have so many guards?" Aisa asked softly. " It was never needed before with the last Priestesses." "You are different then the last Priestesses." He stated simply. " You are not well born. Nor, are you favored among those currently in power." His voice got very firm, resolved. " You will be safe. As is my oath to the crystal which now you represent." A commotion in the hall signaled the arival of the girl with Aisa's food and drink. On a try much to large for her, she held food enough for Aisa, and her guard and herself. " As you requested Lady," she said in a soft breathy voice. "Did I do good?" A genuine smile lit Aisa's face. "Yes you did." she answered softly. "Come lets all eat." "Lady." the guard objected. "This isnt done." "It is now." She commanded, a smile pasted on her face and her eyes hard. "Come and eat. I hate eating alone." Given that type of command her guard could do no other then join her. Aisa began laughing when frantically the lil girl began tasting small bits of all of the food and took a sip from her cup in such a hurry that she caughed and burped. "S'cuse me!" she peeped embarassed. "Slowly!" Aisa giggled. " What shall we call you wee one since you remember not your name?" She had already been in the girl's mind and found a very rough beginning for her. The girl stopped mortified and embarassed. "What ever you wish Lady." was her soft reply. "I know!" Aisa smiled. "We shall call you Gale for the strong winds that beat our shore. You blow quite quickly around in such a rush. It fits you." The girl smiled up into the Lady's eyes and all began to eat peacefully. ~end six~

Seven~ The sun rose on the third day through mist and rain. As Aisa opened her eyes peace entered her being imediately and a soft voice entered her mind. Goodmorn sister. There are lots of things to do today. A soft giggle lit her mind as the voice continued. Your guard is impatient and paces the halls waiting for your sleepy head to waken. He has someone for you to meet. If I was you Id take my time since he is grumbling. The humor was lost on Aisa as she moved to dress. Finding a shift already laid out for her and matching soft slippers she began to dress while sending out a request for her breakfast and no one to enter till it was served. Moving slowly to the window and gazing out over the still sleeping city, Aisa noticed that dawn was just touching the shores. Puzzled, she sent out a quiry to her guard. Why must I be awake so early? There is much to do in very little time Lady. Was the soft answer. When you are ready my lady I have someone for you to meet and after you meet him you have a meeting with the court. There was a sense of rush in his tone. I am dressed you may come in and explain to me what it is I am to do when Gale brings me my breakfast. Aisa moved to the table at the window and sat in the chair. Gale rushed in on small feet bringing her bread and honey and sweet sliced meats on a silver tray. After placing the tray on the table, she began to take small nibbles of everything on the tray then sipped from the cup of fresh water that she had drawn for her lady. "I watched them prepare it myself Lady." She pipped in her sweet voice. "It is safe." Gale smiled up at her mistress. Aisa smiled at the small girl in front of her. " Sit little one." Gestering to the other chair she continued. " You need to eat too. It seems we have a long day infront of us." Laughing softly as Gale sat quickly and picked up bread and began to smear honey on thick, Aisa picked up a thick slice of bread and added a bit of honey to it and took a small bite. Her thoughts directed at her guard who seemed farther then usual from her. You havent told me your name. My oversight my Lady. I am called Rhynoin. Are you ready to meet the person who will guard you in my absense? Aisa paused running the name around in her head. Yes. Ty Rhynoin. You may bring him when you are ready. The doors to her chamber opened moments later admiting her guard and another man who stood just a small bit below her guard's height, who approached her reverantly and gracefully knelt in front of her. " My Lady, may I present Daylwhryn." Her guard paused as the other man stood and stepped back. "This man will guard you when I am away or sleeping. In this way you will always have a guard near." Aisa stood and walked to her window. It seemed that everything focused for her when she looked out of it when her mind was overloaded. " I still do not understand why I must be guarded at every moment... Even in mine own tower." "My Lady," He sighed in frustration. " Your rise to power has brought much controversy. It is my job and now his as well to see to your safety." Rhynoin steped to the man he chose and nodded. At his nod the other man bared his chest and took a solid stance placing his hands behind his back, then spoke in a deep voice. " I am ready for the binding my Lady." His comander took his hands with his in a restraining fashion and placed a booted foot solidly behind the other man's feet to steady him, nodding that he too was ready. Confusion drove her mind to the crystal and all of the answers were there. She knew what was expected of her. She could refuse to bind him to her and her guard would have to look for a new second. Aisa approached the man who was restrained in front of her. She drove her mind forcefully into his and examined every memory. There was no resistance on his part. He was a mercinary by birth trained to kill w/ his mind and also with a sword. He was deadly in close combat and also from far away. A man to be feared and was feared by even the master swordsman that taught him. This man was very powerful and yet stood docilly before her. She understood his motives for allowing this and also understood that he would never willingly betray her or her tower. He was loyal to the end of his life. Such was already his oath to her guard. And this man was a man of his word. He was a good choice. Aisa stepped foward and placed her hand over his heart. Connected with the crystal as she was now the crystal connected with him. No one ever connected with the crystal form without some mark showing that they did so. Most didnt come out of it alive she realized. Only those with pure gifts could do so without harm. At her touch Daylwhryn tensed. He had heard about what happened when a Priestess accepted a new guard. He was told there was intense pain. But he was not ready for what it was in actuality. Her mind thrust into his with skill and power. His every thought was laid bare to her. He guarded nothing from her and allowed her access to even his most inner being. Then the song began in his head. Questions imbeded in the song interigated him like the most diligent inquisitor. He answered every one to the best of his ability and also pledged himself to that voice and the Priestess standing infront of him. Then the pain began. Intense and sharp it was and without mercy. But he was used to pain. Instead of tensing and fighting it he relaxed into it and rode the waves of it until it was no more. When the pain ceased he noticed that he was drenched in sweat and also the firm grip on his arms was released. He focused his gaze on his priestess and felt her grief at his pain and also her confusion. He knew she was scared at the enormity of what she had recently taken on and also knew that her hands stung. Moving quickly he retrieved the water basin and held the cool water before her. Aisa gratefully placed her hands in the cool water and sighed. Thankyou. Was the soft reply she gave to him in his mind. Daylwhryn knew then that if anyone approached her with any menace he would gladly kill them. As painfully as possible. "My Lady," Rhynoin said. "When you are ready we must go to the Crystal chamber. You have the court to meet today and a public appearance to make." Aisa nodded as Gale brought her a soft cloak. Thankyou little one. She wispered into the girl's mind. Then turned and waved the doors open. She left her room and headed for the tower her guards and her companion following closely behind. end 7~
Eight~ Walls of alabaster reaching tall and arching above them as they walked down the corridor went unnoticed by Aisa her mind lost in the enormity what she had done. The binding was not an easy thing to explain. When she looked into herself she found the same thing resided deep within, an essance that was foreign to her but now belonged there, bound to her spirit as if it was ment to be. It glittered like spun glass and resided in everyone bound to the Crystal. She searched everyone that was bound to her in her tower and found the same thing. They were all apart of the Crystal and w/o it's touch she felt they would surely die. It was now apart of the essance of life they held within them. Her young mind sought to sort out the mystery that she was now faced with as she walked unseeing to the Crystal chamber. The thought of being bound to something so alien disturbed and confused her. She had seen images within the Crystal of an ancient world that was doomed. She had heard the song of desparation as they wove thier magick to enable the Crystal ships to bring them. She saw the devistation and the essance of those left behind absorbed into the crystal forms left behind. Two societies living in harmony now combined as one. Asia reached the Crystal chamber unseeing. Glancing up at the doors, surprised at her arrival, she absent-mindedly waved them aside and began to enter. Stepping in front of thier Lady and clearing the path in the crowded hall, her guards led the way to the dias and her high seat. Hostle images began to inflitrate into Asia's awareness. Thoughts of menace began to surround her and cut of her breath. Gazing around at the crowd as she walked to her chair, Asia began to pick out those who would rather she not have come to power. The images so startling and fearful began to allow her confidence to wane. Fear began to infiltrate her mind and heart. The tower guards and especially her personal guards began to feel her fear and began to bristle with anger. Immediately the guards became more alert. All it would take would be one misstep and that would be it. Reaching the dias, Asia turned and faced the hostle gathering. These were all dignataries. These were all the high born and rulers of Atlantis. She was bound to the Crystal and kept them safe. But in thier pride they forgot this most vital fact. "LET ALL WITNESS THE SUCCESSOR OF THE WESTERN TOWER!!" Rhynoin said, his voice carrying to the farthest points of the chamber. "SHE IS AISA, HIGH PRIESTESS TO THE CRYSTAL FOR THE WESTERN POINT! LET ALL GIVE HER HOMAGE AND PLEDGE THIER LOYALTY AS IT IS WRITTEN!" He stepped back allowing his Lady to step to the front. Both of her guards not a foot behind her, Asia took a step forward her mind scanning the crowd. The ruling class began to step forward as was customary and knelt infront of her pledging loyalty. As they filtered out of the hall afterward the hall thinned somewhat of people and Asia could breathe easier. Her anxiety began to wane and she began to feel comfortable. A tall man stepped forward, dressed in fine blue fabric, and knelt in front of her, mumbling his loyalty under his breath as he did so. Aisa placed her hand on his head in blessing as she had done with countless others before him and gasped. That was all the warning she had as his hate filled her. All the warning she had before he grabbed her wrist and pulled her to him. She had no time to cry out. Acting quickly her guards worked as a team. Rhynoin fainted to the front drawing his attention to himself. A knife was now held at his Lady's throat. Daylwhryn reacted with the speed and deadly accuracy he was trained for since a small boy. He was behind his Lady and her assailant within seconds. Within seconds his hands were at his throat. Within seconds the man dropped as blood poured from what was left of his throat. His Lady was thrown aside into Rhynoin's arms as he pulled her back to the dias blood covered her gown. Daylwhryn stood in front of her with his hands covered in the man's blood his wind pipe in his right hand the man dead at his feet. Rhynoin turned her aside picking her up so that the blood did not cover her slippers. Asia in shock struggled w/ her guard, her voice finally finding her. Her guards began to take men to the wall at sword point those resisting were joining her asailant on the floor. Blood was filling her hall. Screams echoed through the once peaceful chamber. "STOP!!" Asia commanded regally. "You will all stop now!" Tears coursed down her face. The power of the crystal filled her being. The horror of the moment freeing something deadly within her as well. "You will all STOP! You will not move!" Silence reigned. At her command they could not move. No one. Not even her guards. "You will release me." The command soft in his mind, Rhynoin could do no other then to release his Lady. His mussles no longer at his command. Her feet dropped down into the blood that pooled on the dias. Her gown hem soaking in it, Asia glanced down for only a moment before stepping off the dias. "I AM THE HIGH PRIESTESS OF THE WESTERN TOWER. THE CRYSTAL IS IN ME AS I AM IN IT." She broadcast this into every mind there. Into every mind that encompased Atlantis. She broadcast the scene in front of her. The feel of the blood on her gown and the smell of it in her nose was also broadcast. No citizin of Atlantis was spared the scene. "IF YOU REMOVE ME FROM POWER W/O A SUCCESSOR THAT I MUST CHOOSE MYSELF YOU WILL BE DEFENSELESS!! THIS WAS AN ACT OF COWARDICE THAT I WILL NOT ABIDE! I WILL FIND THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE AND I WILL BANISH THIER ENTIRE FAMILY FROM THE SAFETY OF THESE WALLS. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!" With that she went quiet. Her grief filling those bound to her. Another soft command was given and the remaining people were ushered out without resistance. Turning to her guards she spoke softly. " There will be no audience at the balcony today. I believe they have seen me." When the hall was empty she walked back to her room a sobbing Gale cluched to her hand and her guards following behind. A bath was drawn and she was able to be clean. It would take hours for the hall to be cleansed, she realized as she bathed. Grief again clutched her heart at the loss today. And to her feeling she had been the cause of it. A homesickness filled her mind and heart which she kept hidden. She wanted to be home.. She wanted to be rid of this responsibility she had taken on. And she would . Tomarrow.
Nine In the dark before the dawn a small figure crept out into the halls. Dressed in a white shift, she stood out starkly in the night. It had only taken a very small push to be sure they all slept soundly. Even the guards assigned to her could not resist it. Aisa was discovering just how much power she wielded. A last visit to the Crystal chamber finding all was now clean and not even a hint of what happened the day before remained and she left the tower and walked into the tower yard. Wind blew softly in the trees and the garden fountain gurgled happily. This place was peaceful after the horror she had expieranced yesterday. Aisa moved around the garden in contimplation. Homesickness filled her. One last mental push and she found the hole in the wall that no one knew was there but her and she was out of the Tower confines. A deep sadness filled her as the Crystal form reached for her. Aisa pushed it away. She couldnt go back. In her heart she knew she was responsible for the deaths yesterday and wouldnt be responsible for more. Running along the edge of the field that now began to crackle and flux she made her way home. Weakness began to take over as she got further and further from the tower. A storm began to form above and thunder rolled over the sky. What do you think that you are doing?! Reline asked her voice frantic. You will doom us all with this nonsense! Go back now! I am doing as I must. It was my fault yesterday. Aisa replied sadly. I cannot allow it again. Where are your guards??? There was now real fear in Reline's voice. Asleep. What have you done?! Reline searched far from her allowed touch and found everyone in the Western Tower sleeping soundly. It was crystal induced. Pain slicing through her head her own guards now very angry at the stress being caused to thier Lady offered to retrieve the errant priestess and where told an emphatic no. Reaching out using all of the energy availible to her she woke the two head guards. Your Lady has run away and weakens even as I reach out to you. You must hurry or we are all doomed. One last push and Reline collapsed to her knees. Running along a hidden path deep in the surrounding woods, Aisa made her way home. The field weakening w/ every step she took. The echo of the crystal's words running over and over in her mind when she was first joined with the crystal. YOU ARE BOUND TO THE TOWER AND TO ME. WITHOUT ME THERE IS NO YOU AND WITHOUT YOU I CANNOT EXIST. FIVE PRIESTESSES MAKE UP THE BOND WE NOW NOW SHARE YOU ARE MY WESTERN FACET. Glancing back she saw the crystal flair. Weakness was now a dragging thing on her body. For the first time she realized what the crystal had ment. There was no escape. With the power she had gained she had also been imprisoned. Her body, her soul, had been bonded with the crystal for all time. What a terrible price to pay for the safety of many. Collapsing to her knees and breathing shallowly she explored the earliest memories of the crystal. It was a survival of a people that had caused the first women to take thier places as priestess. It was a terrible last ditch effort to save a race so old that none could count the centuries of its existance. It had worked. But at a terrible price to pay through eternity. Her heart now beating out of time, Aisa knew she could never leave. Even as she knelt in the mud, her body was losing its hold on life. Rising weakly, she turned to make her way back to the tower. A roar behind her caused her to turn. This was nothing like she had ever seen before. Half beast and half man this creature towered above her. In an instant she knew. The field had weakened and this thing was allowed in. Aisa began to run back to the tower. The beast fast on her heels. But in her weakness that was not fast enough. Her foot catching on a root, she tripped, and her head struck a rock. Aisa knew no more. Out of the shadow Daylwhryn stepped between his lady and the beast. His face a mask of determination he faced his foe. He distributed his weight on his toes and drew his sword. He could not check on his lady but felt for her life force and knew she was yet alive. The beast, standing a good 2 and half feet above him swiped at him w/ razor like claws. This was no ordinary beast. It was smart and feinted to gain better access. The battle raged between them for long minutes neither gaining any ground and neither becomming injured. Daylwhryn knew that if he was to kill the beast he must make a sacrifice. He moved in closer and allowed a hit knocking him to his knees. Blood gushed from his side as he brought his sword up into the exposed belly. With a last howl of pain and anger the beast dropped to the ground. Daylwhryn rose then just as Rhynoin joined him at a run. One look at his second and a glance at the beast now laying on the ground behind him and Rhynoin knelt to check on his lady. "She is alive". He said sofly as he picked her up and held her protectively to his chest. "We must get her back to the tower. That is the only way that what has been set into motion can be reversed." "Do you know how many have flooded our boarder?" Daylwhryn asked. "No." Was the curt reply. They were both running toward the tower. The indeed had very little time. As they entered the gates with thier Lady, The tower field flaired to life again. The storm stopped and the sky turned a bright blue again. Rhynoin ordered his second to get his side treated and then made his way toward his Lady's chamber. The door was quickly opened for him and the maids began to wash Aisa clean of her adventure. The wound on her head was treated and she was laid to rest in her bed. Her guard stood at the foot of her bed and gazed at her with grief in his eyes. "Stupid .. stupid woman." He muttered under his breath. This was the most difficult time of his service. He shouldnt care so much but he did. And all she did was defy every tennant set in front of her. He would have to be more watchful. Though as he thought about this instance, he believed she had learned a lesson. end 9

Ten~ Dawn broke on yet another day and flooded the room with soft light. Aisa awoke to a stiring within her mind. Rising and padding on silent feet she found a soft robe at the foot of her bed and slipped it on. Padding across the room her hand touched the crystals and stones that lay on a table against a wall. Her hand lingered on on them feeling thier warmth. Her mind reached for all that was connected to her and her part of the crystal. There seemed to be a void within the matrix of the connections that she normally felt. It was interesting what one got used to in so short a time. She mused. Feeling that gulf in the connection led her to leave her chamber and follow the blankness. down in the bowls of the tower to the sick rooms and to the bedside of her new guard. He lay very still and flushed. She frowned and let out a sigh knowing that his injury was his fault. Her memory much clearer then when she had been dilerious w/ loss of the crystal touch she remembered fully what happened; at least to the point where her head hit the rock. Absent mindedly her hand raised to touch the bump and cut on her head which had been mended as best as the healers were able. Frowning again she reached for the Crystal Form. She had very seldom in her short reign willingly reached for it. Everytime thus far had been reflex. The connection was apart of her. This time she sought out what she needed and found it there waiting along with floods of relief from the Form itself. An admonition also within it. A tear made its way down her cheek as she knelt by her guard. "Im sorry" was voiced in a soft voice as she knelt by his bed. One hand laid on his head the other on the bandage that swathed his side, Aisa took a deep breath and let the power flow through her. It came as a jolt through her and then into her guard. Daylwhryn's body jerked once as the energy passed from his mistress to himself a single gasp escaping his lips before he consciouly stilled any thought of pain. The pain was gone in an instant even before he could think about it. Fire rushed through his body followed by a cool breath. Instantly he knew that his priestess knelt by his side. He opened his eyes to find her grief stricken face staring solomnly at him. A soft smile touched her lips as she tried to stand. Aisa knew what she had done. She did not pay attention to the amount of stress her mortal body had undergone in just a few short hours. As she rose from her knees her body weakened drasticly under the stress it had been put under. As a soft gasp escaped her lips, Daylwhryn moved quickly to prevent her fall only to be told sharply NO in his mind. He sat up quickly as his mistress stumbled back. Aisa retreated back several steps, shame and pride fueled this action. She had been treated like a weakling ever since her arrival. If she was to be here, she realized now it was not possible for her to leave. She would have to be stronger and people treating her like an infant would not help. Daylwhryn looked behind Aisa to see Rhynoin standing in the shadows watching. He had followed her in keeping her very much under his watch. Aisa stumbled back further until she reached Rhynoin who stepped forward to steady her. NO! was the emphatic command she broadcast to him as he touched her. Pulling away from her guard, Aisa reached for the Crystal Form to gain the strength she needed. As her guards watched her least she fall I can do this myself. She said again in each of thier minds. Her head bowed and her arms out slightly her sides, she gained her ballance and drew from the Crystal Form for strength. After gaining the strength she needed, Aisa turned to leave the room. She had drawn enough to allow her to reach her room but not enough to tarry overlong. Rhynoin stared at his Lady. Her face was drawn with fatigue and stress. He could feel the weakness in her body and he could also feel the rebellion in her. Her determination to be strong outweighing the weakness in her small form. He deliberately blocked her path not wanting her to weaken herself further when there was no need. Allow me to carry you to your chamber. He said softly in her mind. I can walk on my own. She said as she raised her chin a notch looking into her guard's eyes. Please step aside. I wish to return to my chamber. Her knees trembled a bit under her gown but she outwardly showed no sign of weakness. Rhynoin didnt move. Lady, you are weak. There is no need for you to stress yourself further when I can carry you to your chamber. He said his eyes and also his senses telling him what she tried to hide. I did not see you in the halls. Aisa said. Do you now follow me like a prison keeper? Her weakness was overcomming her energy and she needed to lay down. Through her wish not to show weakness she displayed anger at being caught at roaming the tower. A dark look overtook Rhynoin's face. I follow as is my duty Lady. He said firmly trying not to let his frustration rule him. We cannot have you leave the tower again. You risk not only your own life but every life that it is your duty to see to. I would have thought you would have learned this through the Crystal. Perhaps I was wrong. You overstep your duty by barring my way. Aisa snapped in his mind. You are here to guard me not to be my nurse. Move! Her eyes narrowed as she matched his stubbron will with her own. MY duty Lady is to see to your welfare. He said softly. His mind voice brushing her mind. Like it or not. And you have no business standing there arguing with me. He stepped forward quickly not giving her any time to use the Crystal influance on him. Scooping her up and cradling her in his arms, he turned on his heel followed by Daylwhryn he walked out the door. Both guards, one holding the Priestess of the Western Tower the other clad only in his breeches walked through the halls to the Priestess' chambers. Let me down now. Aisa said in his mind. She was angry now that he had defied her. I command you to let me down! Lady, he said calmly in her mind. I am only directed and compelled to follow an order by you if you are not in danger. My primary duty is to your welfair. And you are too weak to walk. Therefore the Crystal lends me strength. Aisa tried to use the Crystal's strength to push her directive and found it didnt work. A soft chuckle greeted her attempt. It was a mocking "I told you so" from the man who carried her. Daylwhryn opened her chamber door and stood to the side as his Captan carried his mistress into her room and laid her on her bed. As soon as her body met her bed, Aisa sent a push at both her guards. She was worn and she was angry at being weakened that she took it out on her guards. I hate you and what you did to me by taking me from my family. Leave! She commanded Rhynoin and take your lacky with you! Asia grabbed her coverlet and laid down pulling it over her head. One final shove using the strength of her connection with the Crystal to fuel her command and both guards found themselves on the other side of her chamber door. Dont come back unless I summon you! After curling up into a ball to cry, Aisa fell into a troubled sleep filled with the visions of the previous days and her rise to power in the Western Tower. End Ten Elevin~ Rumors lit the boarders of the outter kingdoms. Atlantis was very much a hidden city that ruled over several outter kingdoms quietly. Politics aside it was a good policy for all involved. When you add the politics it became muddled and dark in some areas of dealing. When Aisa took power of the Western Tower she became the central part of the rebelion's cause to unseat the Crystal Form. Minor skermishes broke out along the boarders of the hidden city and more and more assasins were sent out. The weakening of the shield walls due to the lack of connection of the Western Priestess caused a breach in the defenses of the city. Shadow warriors began to filter in and cause major upset. Because of the conditioning of the minds of these warriors and thier abilities they were very hard to find. Even for the priestesses of the towers. Each quadrant faced its own problems because of this new threat. Now not only was the Western Tower in danger all five were. The Central Tower was surrounded by the city and much harder to get to so the threat was contained. The outter towers began to be hard hit with attempts at entry. Cries for protection went up across the hidden city of Atlantis. Aisa watched as Rhynoin paced uncharcteristically infront of the dias where she was seated. His second in command, Daylwhryn stood unmoving his attention centered on his own agenda. Upmost in his mind was protecting his Priestess. To do that he had to get rid of the new threat of assasins pouring into the city. From what he knew now of the Crystal form and also of the arts he new he had to act fast. He could find the ones who had come into the city easy enough but it would be a blood bath. Not only for the assasins but for the city as well. They would take with them anyone that was unlucky enough to be in their way. Aisa stood up and felt the eyes of both her guards on her as she moved to the window. "We will be having company soon." she said in a voice that seemed not her own. "They will request an audience. You will allow it." Her tone was flat and unemotional. She didnt know what to do anymore. She just sensed that this person would be important in ferreting out some of the cause of the killings within the city. end 11
-12- Across the sands he stumbles. He is weak from lack of food and water. His body was tall. The clothes on his form hun in rags-his shoes once the finest were now barely recognisable. He had avoided the hunting parties that had first been sent out after him when the sabatours had found him gone. These were the very men who, when their elders had refused to ally with them against the towers, attacked their community. At first it was subversive--the animals getting sick, stores being stolen or poisened, wells being spoiled. When the people began to weaken and die off , they again came to the elders and proposed an alliance. Again the elders refused. It was then his people were put under seige. No one was allowed to come or to go. All trade was stopped. His people had begun to starve. Lancisak, a noble by birth had taken upon himself this one last duty. He had accepted the enevidibility of his own death when he had done so. He fell against a barrier. Gasping and falling again to his knees feeling the energy pulsate against his scarred hands. Lips cracked from thirst mouthed the sacred words passed down from generation to generation. They were his passage into the great city. A hum accompanied the last sylables he had uttered. Lancisak found himself inside the barrier and on the outskirts of a shining city. He began to make his way toward the center of the city. As Lancisak walked, half stumbling, he noticed women pulling their children away. Once crouded streets were quickly becoming deserted. Men began to appear behind him. Many held tools such as rakes and shovels, but some held swords. The smell of food had his stomach in knots. But it wasnt enough to make him stop. It was the fountian at the center of the city that proved to much of a temptation. Water, pure and undefiled, flowed freely and splashed down into a clear pool. He stopped, then collapsed at the fountian. Hands, scarred from his journey plunged into the clear depths of the fountian. He drank noisily, gulping as fast as he could the fresh clear water. Lancisak collapsed at the foot of the fountian gasping. His stomach rebelling at the introduction of the water after going so long without. It was then he noticed the gathering of the men. Feeling the danger for the first time, Lancisak rose unsteadily to his feet and began to move toward the closest tower. With each step he took the croud grew behind him and became more angry. He began to run toward the tower, at times stumbling and nearly falling. As he reached the gates of the Western Tower, the croud caught up with him. Lancisak's screams brought the guards to his aid. "Mercy!" He yelled as the croud began to attack him. "Sanctuary!" The guards began to intervene as the man pleaded for assistance. "I invoke the laws of sanctuary! Mercy!" "Enough!" A bellowed order came from the heights of the walls surrounding the tower. A man dressed in black stood on the parapits over looking the main gate of the Western Tower. At the sound of his voice the croud paused and the man was pulled inside the gates and away from the croud. "Mercy!" Lancisak collapsed at the feet of the guards who had pulled him from the croud. "Sanctuary! By the laws of the towers I claim sanctuary!" end -12-
