Dragon Magic with Snow Dragon
Dragon Circle Casting
for casting any circle, it is always best to know a little about it before embarking on completing it. i would, at this time, like to direct you to the wicca section and the page you can find there about circle casting. after reading that page, and you learn a bit about what a circle is, come back to finish reading this section.
now, as some of you more experienced people may all ready know, a circle can be cast in many ways. there is no right or wrong way. there is no right or wrong way to recite any of the circle charges, whether it was all ready written, or if you write it yourself.
here i will NOT be telling you how to CAST the circle, but how to make it a dragon circle. when casting the circle, a small simple phrase added into what you say to each element can invoke a dragon circle. first it is best if i tell you which direction each element and its dragon corresponds with.
North - Earth element and earth dragons
West - Water element and water dragons
South - Fire element and fire dragons
East - Air element and air dragons
of course there is a 5th element which corresponds with the 5th elemental dragons (spirit dragons if this name suits you better). when casting your circle, just adding in about each elemental dragon in your circle charge and element invoking, is just a way to ask dragons for help in ritual.
first thing we will address is your circle charge. what is it? is a simple recital of the purpose of your circle. an example would be:
"Our Circle is a place where hearts and minds can meet and share in
the wonder and empowerment of a living and loving Goddess. We are a
coven of friends, but above all things we are Family. Our Love and
our Magick binds us together and our Circle keeps us and nurtures us.
We are blessed. Blessed Be!" Copyright 1992 - DragonHart Coven - All Rights Reserved
circle charges do NOT have to be something you find online or in a book. a circle charge should come from the heart. we will go over the basic needs of a circle charge and i will try to help you create your own. you do not need to be poetic or a gifted writer. below you will find a brief explanation of each part that should be in the charge. from there, the charge writing is up to you.
making your own circle charge
what it should include
Goddess- your charge should mention the goddess. remember, most earth bound religions call upon a female deity when performing ritual, and this is no different. you can refer to her as the sacred goddess, or more specifically as your own chosen deity (hecate, aphrodite, diana, etc etc). it is best to show the depth of your respect and love for her. above it is 'living and loving goddess'. an example of a piece of a charge i wrote myself is : 'the light of the all loving sacred mother goddess shines on us as we pay homage to her beauty and grace and her never ending love for us.' it can be different for everyone, and it never ever has to live up to some wild expectation. if it FEELS right, IT IS RIGHT.
Dragons- to initiate a dragon circle, the charge should include some personal feelings of yours for dragons. an example would be: 'magestic dragons of old, may your wisdom wash over me and help me in my magic doings'. just like with the goddess, it is best to show your respect and love for dragons in your charge.
Purpose- not this part can be anything. it can be why you are casting the circle ('i cast this circle to...[insert reason here]) or you can state what your purpose over all is. what do i mean by that? well, it is best to show you a part of a charge i wrote that may explain it better: 'i follow the path of the goddess in all things, striving to be a better person because of the love she shows us in everything. i will follow her so long as i live, for her love is never ending. i am blessed, blessed be!!' in that i wrote what my purpose in life way....to be a better person and to never waver in my faith and path. Though i have lost my way many times, i have never stopped following the goddess in all things. you do not need to be highly religious or anything to create a charge, so do not allow your insecurities stop you. no matter how you feel about religion or about deities, you can still write a wonderful circle charge.
'blessed be'- the phrase blessed be does not need to be in there, but something like it should be there. there are many different things to choose from, so do not let it limit you. it is the closing of your charge, so it can be anything you choose. you may even use a different language. the choice is yours. i use 'i am blessed, blessed be!!' in most of my wicca charges. i change it when i initiate a dragon circle. an example would be 'may dragon magic bless my life'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
okay, now that you know the basic stuff to include in your circle charge, you can now move on to the next part, which would be calling the elements. earth, fire, water, air and spirit (5th element). in basic circles, it varies on whether or not you call upon the 5th element. for all intents and purposes, in a dragon circle, you do.
calling the elements varies from person to person. again i emphasize that you need not recite an all ready written one. you can change yours as you see fit. just remember that above is the corresponding direction and element.
when calling an element, you can start out with 'great dragons of the east, mighty protectors of air...' (that was an example). again i mention that it varies. best thing to do is to sit and write it out. remember, you will be writing for 5 elements, not just 4.
now, when you are writing it out, add a little bit about each element. an example of an entire element would be: 'o, great dragons of the east, mighty protectors of air, the wind speaks your truths, the air sustains our lives. purify me with your wisdom. may dragon magic bless my life.'
of course, you can feel free to use anything i write here. anyways, like i said before, it is best to know circle casting before trying to cast a dragon circle. once you have read about basic circle casting, you can add your original charge and element callings.
everything you do, everything you say when performing this act, should feel right. if at any point you feel uncomfortable with any part of your circle casting, it is best to sit down and think about what is bothering you and how you can fix it. sometimes it is the wording of a sentence, sometimes it is your first time and you feel nervous or anxious. these feelings are very common and you shouldnt feel ashamed of them. a recommendation from me would be to meditate before attempting a circle casting. while meditating, think only of what you have written. in the state of pure relaxation, you will feel more confident with what you have written, or you will know what you need to do in order to acheive self confidence. a missed word, a stuttered sentence will not make what you do worthless. you are a very strong person, whether you know it or not.
i wish you all luck in this next step of your journey. i hope you all reach the level in which your seek. Dragon blessings!!
