ADVANCED AFFIRMATIONS AND THE GAP MEDITATION - Part 1
ADVANCED AFFIRMATIONS
---------------------
Sometimes we may have problems with getting our child within into step with us. As you work on the exercises from the basic class and this class you may be aware thaty your inner child is growing older, growing up too -- in a sense -- heading towards meeting you at your maturity level. But sometimes it seems that the inner child just doesn't "get it." And, this can be because the child within still identifies with a childhood nickname you were called, that is some childhood name you were called. So, you might want to incorporate that childhood name into your affirmations. Say your name is "Mary Ann" but the family called you "Snuggles" and the kids at school called you "Marn."
You might then want to start, for example, The Armour of Light affirmation this way:
..........................
" I am Mary Ann, I am Snuggles, I am Marn. AND, In the NAME, through the POWER and by the WORD of (your power name) I, Mary Ann, Snuggles, Marn as one being, I put on the full Armour of Light. On my head ... etc."
....................
What I'm encouraging you to do is to experiment a bit with your affirmations to see how you can make them not only more effective for you personally, but also to gain the cooperation of your inner child. Now some of you may already know what name your inner child desires to be called. Say the inner child likes to be called "Robin" Then you might want to begin an affirmation "I,, MaryAnn and my inner child Robin, put on the full Armour of Light ... etc."
Everyone is different, so I can't give you the exact wording that works most effectively for you. It's something you have to determine for yourself. I've found, for example, that in the Armour of Light affirmation, right after I say: "On my head I wear the Helmet of salvation ... " I've added "And my lips and mouth are blocked and sealed against all astral food, blocked and sealed against all astral drink and blocked and sealed against all other forms of astral intrusion." Then I go on to say "I wear the breastplate of Righteousness ... etc."
I originally was saying "closed and sealed" but I found that "blocked and sealed' is more effective for me or rather for my inner child. So you wil need to try out different wordings to see what works most effectively for you. Anyway, it is well to review your affirmations and add to them focusing on whatever special problems you have. The Cleaning and Sealing affirmation might work better for you with some word changes emphasizing the types of negative items you want cleansing from your being.
THE GAP MEDITATION
........................
I discussed THE GAP in Lesson 16, the last lesson on Manifesting.
I called it the space between one thread of the tapestry of life being laid doiwn on the weaver's loom and the next thread. Another way to think of this is to call it the space between two successive frames of a motion picture film ... the film of life. But "gap" is an easy word to use, so I'll use that from now on. This gap is the empty void (well not necessarily empty but beyond what, anything we can perceive). The gap is the empty void out of which all creation flows. So, when we are using manifesting techniques, we are attempting to place or even to "shove" our requests into that void we call "the gap" so that what we want and need will flow out of that void into our lives.
To help, I hope, in understanding this gap, we might turn to the mystical rabbis in the Hebrew mystical tradition. The rabbis say that beyond the first manifestation, we cannot really understand that Ultimate Source. But, they say, that this whatever beyond the first manifestation can be divided into three levels: The Ain, The Ain Soph and the AinSoph Aur. Ain is or means "Pure negation" -- there is nothing that can be said about it. This same concept shows up in Hindu thought: "The neti, neti" usually translated as "Not this, not that." You can say nothing about it. But this is where we're aiming for in the Gap Meditation. The next closer to us is the "Ain Soph". Ain Soph means "without bounds" or "Limitless". You've all heard of the Limitless Light that pervades the universe. And that's the Ain Soph Aur. For "Aur" means "light," or "fire" or, in our modern understanding, "energy.". So Ain Soph Aur means "The Limitless Light" or, in modern terms "the Limitless Energy". So, the Gap Meditation with a bit of practice allows you to reach beyond the Limitless Light into the very touchstone of creation. Some eastern teachers call this Ain "the silence." So, this is all to give you some picture of where we are going with the Gap Meditation. Any questions before we get into the Gap Meditation itself?
Now the Gap Meditation is presented in Dr. Wayne W. Dyer's book "Getting in the Gap" which comes with a CD you can play during meditation. Now, Dr. Dyer uses the first ten words of The Lord's Prayer in his presentation, ("Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name") but you can use any sentence or phrase which is spiritually significant to you that has, oh say, eight to twelve words in it. I'll follow Dr. Dyer's example using the Lord's Prayer, but you are certainly free to use whatever spiritual sentence that feels right to you. If you want, you could effectively use the first few words with which we start our affirmations: "In the Name, through the Power and by the Word." That's ten words too.
Ok, we follow the usual procedures to get into our meditative mode. You know: Putting on the Armour of Light, grounding, and so forth. Then what you do is focus on your ten words, on whatever mantra you have selected. Following Dr. Dyer's example, We focus on the first word in the sentence or phrase you've selected: In "Our Father who art in heaven ..." that first word is "Our." Now, really focus on that first word. Look in your mind's eye at each letter, how it is shaped, and also consider the meaning of the word "Our." Then when you feel you've given the first word a ample examination, you go on to the second word "Father" You again exhaustly examine that word, its construction and meaning.
Now here's were the "trick" comes in. As soon as you've really gone over that second word, you jump your mind left mentally , that is "backwards" to the gap between "Our" and "Father." And there, just momentarily you should experience the Gap - the AIN, the pure void or silence. Almost immediately, your mind will pick up its thought processes and start "thinking" again. So you move on to the next word "who" (art in heaven). Review the word "who" in the same way and then jump back to the space, the void, between "Father" and "who" And you touch the gap again. And then word by word in whatever ten or so word or phrase you've picked, you go on through the whole phrase or sentence. and, then you repeat this sequence again.
NEXT WEEK: So next week I'll give you a technique "japa" by which you can hold yourself in each of those gaps a bit longer and also how to put your manifesting needs into the gap.
HOMEWORK: Try the Gap Meditation in your regular meditation practice each day. Try to get a "feel" of the gap - even though it is just a momentary hit before the mind starts working its thoughts again. Don't forget your affirmations, and your regular meditation, visualization and journaling activities.
