15. KNOWING AND WILLING TECHNIQUES
As we looked at before, the four steps or principles of manifesting are: KNOW, WILL, DARE and KEEP SILENT. We will look in detail at the first two steps in this lesson.
KNOWING
The first step is to know what you want. Teachers say that you should know what you want down to the last detail. If you are seeking to manifest an automobile, you should know the color, the make, the interior, the kind of engine, whitewalls or not, etc. I used to think, well in manifesting a new apartment, I don't really have to get into the details of what I'm manifesting. Any of a number of apartments will do. So, I'd sluff off on visualizing the details. That is a great way to slow down the manifesting process, as I found out. What actually happens is that when you visualize something you want to manifest–and visualize in great detail, the inner child believes you are serious.
The inner child understands only specific things. The inner child understands specifics. The inner child does not understand generalizations. You cannot visualize "apartments in general." The best you can do is to visualize a number of apartments. And, you don’t want a number of apartments; you want only one single apartment. Even if you are willing to accept a variety of alternatives, you must start by visualizing some specific apartment.
Other Choices Open Up. In the process of manifesting, almost always there will come to you opportunities for you to accept something close to what you have visualized, but something that is not exactly the image you have projected. And, if it's what you want, or is close enough, then it's quite OK to accept the offering that comes to you. Or, you can hold out for something closer to your visualization. But the secret is that you must be detailed about your visualization, even if you are willing to accept something not exactly as visualized.
<DIR> <DIR>
If for example, you are manifesting an automobile, you might have two colors that you would like. Let’s say, either blue or green, but it doesn't matter which of the two colors. Pick one and stick with it. It's deadly to switch details or specifics once you have set the manifesting in motion. If you picked blue and a green car shows up which otherwise is what you wanted, then you can go ahead and accept the green car. Generally, think of those things that come to you, the opportunities that open up– but which are not exactly what you are visualizing–as being harbingers, telling you that what you are working for is on its way.
Never Change Your Visualizations. Remember, it is deadly to the manifesting process to change your specifications, the details of your image, before you acquire whatever you are seeking or before you accept an alternative. Once you start the manifesting process, do not change or cancel the process. If you reject what you have manifested or you change the manifesting in the middle, this is a signal to the inner child that you are not serious about what you seek to manifest. Then, the child stops working for you. Of course, if some extraordinary reason arises, you may have to change your visualizations. But, the down side is, that if you do change your visualizations, you will have to work much harder to convince the child within that you are sincere in your manifesting efforts.
Limitations to Manifesting
Are there limitations to what you may want to manifestation? Well, some spiritual teachers say that you can manifest anything. But, I'm inclined to think that you can manifest only what you are capable of handling. And, as well, a great deal depends on your acceptance level, on what you are, in your own mind, capable of accepting as possible for you. My own thinking is that you do have to work within your own limitations. If you are a paraplegic, you will have grave difficulties becoming a submarine commander, but you might become the world’s greatest expert on submarine construction.
Suppose you desire to manifest owning and operating a resort hotel and you know nothing about the hotel business. You'll probably manifest a free, all expenses paid, weekend at a hotel like the one you were visualizing, rather than having a hotel to manage. Or, maybe, you’ll wind up with a job as a desk clerk at that hotel. If what you really want is to own and operate is a resort hotel, you need to take courses in hotel management, get practical experience in hotel operations, etc. And, all of this training and experience help to convince the inner child that you really do want your goal. A goal like this will be a major long range manifestation.
Major Long Range Manifestations
Some things are big manifesting projects that take several steps. You need to look at the steps to manifest, but you look at them from the position that what you want to manifest is already happened.
Say your heart's desire is to become a locomotive engineer. First, think of yourself as already having that position as a locomotive engineer. Then you think: How did I get to be an engineer? Oh I was promoted to locomotive engineer from being a fireman. How did I get to be a fireman? Oh, I was a utility brakeman and took the test for fireman. How did I get to be a utility brakeman? I applied for a position with Union Pacific. Now you have the whole sequence.
So now you start with manifesting the first position with Union Pacific. Don’t try to manifest any of the subsequent steps. When the first step is accomplished, then you start manifesting your second step position as a utility brakeman. When that's manifested, you begin to manifest the fireman position. Then, when that's accomplished, you go on to manifest the engineer job.
Suppose you have had a dream since childhood of owning a 250,000 acre horse ranch in Montana. If you proceed with a one-step manifesting technique, you are quite likely to manifest taking care of a few horses on a small plot of land that belongs to some one else. Or, maybe, it will be a free, all expenses paid, free week at a dude ranch that comes to you. But, have you considered becoming the manager of a ranch belonging to some one else?
Here, to acquire a ranch, you must first work backwards from the goal, recognizing each prior manifesting step sequentially. Your steps might be as follows:
<DIR> <DIR> <DIR> <DIR>
1. First of all, you see yourself with that ranch and the 6,000 horses you wanted.
</DIR></DIR>
2. Then you think, what did I do to get that ranch? Oh, I bought it with a down payment of let’s say ten percent, $150,000.
3. Now, how did I get the down payment? Oh, I had a fabulous job that paid me over $100,000 a year.
4. How did I get that $100,000 a year job? What kind of job would it be? Oh, I could first become an attorney and make big fees on the cases I handle.
5. What kind of law practice would earn me $100,000 a year? Corporate law would be a good way. Or, maybe, international finance law.
<DIR>
6.How would I become an attorney in corporate law, specializing in international
finance? I would have to go to law school and specialize in international financial
law. Then, I’d probably have to spend a number of years in a law firm that focused on corporate and international law.
</DIR>
7. How would I go to law school? Well, the steps to get to law school are fairly apparent. What schooling do you need to get admitted to law school, what financing will you need? Will you use student loans, etc.?
8. Now you continue working backwards to where you are now. Your first step could be to manifest admission to law school, or maybe to manifest the academic grades and background to enable you to enter Harvard University’s Law School (or the school you pick).
</DIR></DIR>
<DIR> <DIR>
You will have to include or build up the background you will need to operate a horse ranch. Perhaps some training in veterinary and agriculture as well as business management will be needed too.
</DIR></DIR>
My father had a law partner who did exactly this. His childhood dream was to own a large cattle ranch. So, he became an attorney and set aside most of his income towards buying the ranch of his dreams. He finally bought that ranch and left the practice of law to become a rancher.
As I am pointing out, the big manifestations require step-by-step manifesting. But, you determine the sequence of manifestations by working backwards from seeing yourself as having your heart’s desire, then moving step by step backwards to the present time. When you have worked all the way back to present time, the first step you need to make becomes obvious. And you set about manifesting, visualizing that first step, and just that first step. When the first step is accomplished, you go on to manifesting the second step, but only the second step. And so on.
Now, your dream may not to be to own a ranch and your talents may not be found in practicing law, but you can manifest any dream in your heart by working backwards to find your own path to that objective. That is, you begin by working step-by-step backwards from assuming you have achieved that goal to where you are now. And, the steps you need to take will unfold for you. Some backwards steps may not be obvious. But, you know now how to meditate. And those answers will come to you in meditation, if you ask.. When you are clear on the manifesting steps required, you begin by manifesting the first step towards that goal. There is tremendous manifesting power available to you in the fulfilling of a dream that is in your heart. There is even more manifesting power if the dream you have includes in some way helping others–it really gets you beyond the "unworthy" barrier.
There will obviously be obstacles along the way, but you need not be unduly concerned about them. Actually, concentrating on obstacles will only bring them into manifestation too. Let the manifesting techniques take care of any problems. Don’t ever put any negative thoughts or visions into the manifesting process.
Manifesting Concerns
Asking for the Wrong Thing: A frequent concern runs something like this: "What if what I am manifesting will not be good for me in the long run?" This should not be a concern if it is a dream that you’ve had in your heart for a long time. The heart is rarely wrong on this. If what you manifest is wrong for you, you’ll find out quickly enough. Then it’s time to manifest something else, something you now feel is right for you. Don’t worry, the Universal Source knows that you’ll make mistakes. And, making mistakes is how you learn what’s right for you and what’s not. Ultimate Power doesn’t expect us to be right all the time, just that we try to be right.
Coveting What Someone Else Has: Suppose that you want something that someone else has? For example, a neighbor has what you take to be exactly the house you would like to own. If you want something that is what someone else has, if you want yourself to have it, in a direct sense to take it away from him, that is coveting. If you want something like what someone else has, this is quite all right to manifest. But, I'd make sure I wasn't visualizing exactly that which another has. Change the color of the house or change the
