4Katn has joined the conversation.
EternalLighthouse : wb
Mysti : im going to begin by introducing you to Forest and how we run our classes
Zephryus : wb
Katn : ty
Mysti : Forest classes are interactive. By that we mean that we love questions and participation
DraconicKnight : Hi Kat
Katn : how is everything tonight?
Katn : Hi DK
starlight_myst : hi katn
Katn : Hi Star
DraconicKnight : interactive -cool
Katn :
Katn : ok
Mysti : If you have a question please type the word "break"
Katn : im belling it, I have to study
Mysti : and our teachers will answer you for u to ask your questions
Katn : see ya laters
4Katn has been marked as being away.
Mysti : in this way the class runs more smoothly
DraconicKnight : ok
Mysti : I will also ask that since we do save our class transcripts for posting that greetings be kept down to hosts and owners only
starlight_myst : cool mysti, got it
starlight_myst : agree
Mysti : this keeps them more informational and less visiting
DraconicKnight : Yeah hate that in a class
Mysti : Forest holds two classes a week and this week we are doing a trial run of guesting our classes here
Mysti : this is due to our chat being quite dead unfortunately
Mysti : if people like them and our teachers are comfy we will continue w/ owner permission to host them every week
Mysti : Tonights topic is Paganism and Wicca
Mysti : Tomarrow night's topic is Shamanism and is taught by Shaman who is a NA medicine man
Mysti : he is also my co owner
Mysti : now that the business is out of the way shall we get down to class?
EternalLighthouse : sure
DraconicKnight : yip
Nova nods
starlight_myst : yup
Mysti : does anyone have any questions about how class is run?
EternalLighthouse : no
Allan : nty
starlight_myst : nope
Mysti : okes lets go
Mysti : we shall begin by discussing the basics of magick
Mysti : if you notice i didnt spell it in the normal way
Mysti : magick is the sending of energy out to effect the ballance and tip it in our favor
Mysti : magic is a pallor trick ment to decieve
Mysti : it is not real
Mysti : when we begin we always begin w/ history and that is how we shall start
Mysti : witchcraft or put plainly the craft
Mysti : can be traced back to paleolithic times
Mysti : and has continued since. it has gone underground when needed but has always been
Mysti : it has also transformed
Mysti : from its first beginings it was called sympathetic magick
Mysti : that is "because i enact this or mimic this it will happen for me in real life"
Mysti : the first evidence of it is when the first tribes of man put on a deerskin and enacted a successful hun
Mysti : hunt*
Mysti : with the hunt being successful in the ritual it was believed that it would be when they did it for real
Mysti : as our lives as humans became more complicated the need for magick to be more useful became clear. it evolved
Mysti : are there any questions so far?
DraconicKnight : none here
EternalLighthouse : no
Mysti : ok
Mysti : now along with magick their was the religion of the people which went right along w/ the magick
Mysti : when man became aware of something bigger then himself he began to try to explain existance
Mysti : the first bits of religion came as man ascribed a god to everything
Mysti : there was a god of the hunt
Mysti : a god of the trees, air, water,
Mysti : you name it .. it had a god
Mysti : this is called Animism
Mysti : it is t he beginnings of every modern religion
Mysti : as magick evolved so did religion
Mysti : when man learned to farm fertility became important
Mysti : and so the goddess was born
Mysti : at first she was only incharge of the firtility of the animals and of course the women in the tribes
Mysti : the representations that we see are of exaggerated figures of the vaginal area as well as the breasts
Mysti : the goddess did not bear any likeness to a real human woman as of yet..
Mysti : but as we evolved so did she and the gods of the people
Mysti : the god of the hunt became the horned god Cernunnos
Mysti : and Herne in other areas
4Seeker has joined the conversation.
Mysti : The goddess took on the form of woman in her true self
EternalLighthouse : hi seek.
Mysti : namaste seeker welcome to class
4Seeker has made Seeker an Owner.
Mysti : as man evolved religion to fit his needs the rituals became more involved and those that led them
Seeker : hi all ..... don't mean to interrupt
Mysti : the ones that knew how to work the magicks were called Wiccie or Wicca
Mysti : Wise ones
Mysti : These were the first priests and priestesses
Mysti : but they were not just the religious leaders of the tribes
Mysti : they became the healers, teachers, rulers
Mysti : does anyone have questions or comments ?
EternalLighthouse : no
DraconicKnight : I'm good
Nova : no
Mysti : okes
Mysti : this was way before any other religion came to the tribes
Allan : nty
Mysti : now as for history of the conflict of the wiccie and early christians i am not sure how far to go
Mysti : i consider it history and some may consider it offensive
DraconicKnight "break"
Mysti : yes
DraconicKnight : Just do it as you would always teach
Mysti : ok
Mysti : As christianity came into the area of which I am talking about it existed side by side w/ the old religion
Mysti : but as men will be men and men in power are always power hungry
Mysti : there was a clash of interest as the priests wanted the people to convert to their way instead of the way of the land which was paganism
Mysti : the christian priests saw that it was the wiccie that ruled the people. and by their religion was the law of the land set
Mysti : so if one religion could rule them another could if they could convert them
Mysti : and so it went
Mysti : christianity was not the religion it is today then
Mysti : it has evolved too
Mysti : but that is not a lesson for a pagan witch to teach
Mysti : suffice it to say conversion only became a necessity to rule a people
Mysti : the first attempts at conversion did not go so well
Mysti : kings were converted but not their people
Mysti : so to say a country or people were converted really only ment that the king had been
Mysti : Pope Gregery the Great was one of the first to really make a hard core attempt at converting the masses
Mysti : he ordered his priests and soldiers to smash the worship places of the pagan people and cleanse the area and errect a christian place in its stead
Mysti : the idea was that if the place was converted that the people who came to worship in their sacred areas would also come
Mysti : it was only partly successful
4Allan has been marked as being away.
Mysti : the craftsmen of the time were pagan
4Allan is no longer marked as being away.
Mysti : and so when they were commissioned to build the christian temples
Mysti : the put in their own symbols
Mysti : this is y you see images in the early churches of horned heads surrounded by foilage
Mysti : these were called foliate mask or a jack of the green
Mysti : they were very cleaver *smile*
Mysti : when these things didnt work very well
Mysti : the christian priests got more nasty
Mysti : christian holidays were adopted very closely to pagan holy days.
Mysti : dec 25 .. christmas... dec 21 Yule
Mysti : each day was matched to the pagan wheel of the year
Mysti : this helped somewhat
Mysti : but not enough as we progress through history
Mysti : the goddess was adopted as the virgin mary
Mysti : and our horned god of the hunt became the christian devil
Mysti : hince the perpetuated mythos of pagans and wiccans worshiping the devil
Mysti : by fear were they ruled in those days
Mysti : and when christianity became more popular those who did not convert died.
Mysti : the inquisition
Mysti : in 1484 Pope Innocent VIII produced the Malleus Maleficarum
Mysti : the witch hammer
Mysti : in this book were instructions for the prosecution of witches
Mysti : Kramer and Sprenger started an hysteria by producing a forgery of this book
Mysti : which was not discovered until 1898
Mysti : at this time in europe it was basically bedlam
Mysti : in 1586 the archbishop of treves decided that local witches had caused a harsh winter
Mysti : 20 men and women were burned to death on his charge of messing w/ the elements
Mysti : it did not stop there
Mysti : people would accuse just to get someone out of their way
Mysti : the accused were held is small spaces and forced to admit to witchcraft
Mysti : if they did not they were put to death torchered until they died very painfully
Mysti : if you did then you were put to death anyway but the pain stopped
Mysti : the rough estimate of the total number of people who where put to death at this time by hanging burning or torture is nine million
Mysti : eventually witchcraft went underground
Mysti : it was necessary.. people thought they had died out. christianity had one
Mysti : won*
Mysti : questions or comments so far?
Allan : nty
DraconicKnight : No ty
Zephryus : no
EternalLighthouse : children were also put to death
Nova : no
Seeker : good here
Mysti : sadly elh yes they were
Mysti : in 1604 king james 1 passes a witchcraft act
Mysti : it was repealed in 1736 and replaced by a law that stated basically there was no such thing as witchcraft and anyone claiming it would be charged w/ fraud
Mysti : As books began to be published Christianity had full reign being the only religion in print
Mysti : the first time that witchcraft was looked at in print w/ an unbiased light was in 1921
Mysti : Dr. margaret Alice Murray produced "The Witch Cult in Western Europe"
Mysti : of course it was denouced as hogwash but it was out there
Mysti : she produced a second book called The God of Witches in 1931 which was also denounced
Mysti : by 1951 all laws against the craft were abolished in Europe
Mysti : the first person to really speak up was Dr. Gerald Gardner
Mysti : he wrote a book called "Witchcraft Today"
Mysti : this book brought to light that yes paganism still flourished. albit underground
Mysti : a true voice though was not really heard because of the fear of persectution by the covens and local people
Mysti : he was basically muffled in his voice and books to the world
Mysti : they got out but he was greatly sensored
Mysti : The first person in the states to speak up was Raymond Buckland
Mysti : questions or comments?
EternalLighthouse : nope
Nova : no
DraconicKnight : none
Allan : as in buckland books?
Mysti : yes allan
Mysti : that is the history
Allan : okies
Mysti : now to mix it up just a bit
Mysti : and give some explaination to coorespondence and y we use them
Mysti : this is a basic class and we will get farther down the road to magick
Mysti : but to end this class i wanted to touch a tiny bit on energy and spell work
Mysti : our next class will be pure ethics
Mysti winks
Allan : lol
Mysti : spells, prayer.. whatever you use or claim
Mysti : is the sending of energy out into the universe to make the wheel of fate turn your way
Mysti : energy itself has no color
Mysti : so one cannot say
Mysti : "i am a white witch"
Mysti : nor can one say " i am a white lighter"
Mysti : nor can you claim truely the path of dark energy
Mysti : energy has no color
Mysti : it is the person wielding the energy.. sending it out that colors the energy
Mysti : we all have within us the capibility for light and dark
Mysti : good and evil
Mysti : so to set up my next class i am going to give out a little thinking homework
Mysti : here is the senerio
Mysti : i have given you all of the power in the world
Mysti : you can do anything you want
Mysti : the only limit to this
Mysti : is you can only do one thing at a time
Mysti : and it takes you a full day to recover from one use
Mysti : meaning u can only use it one time per day
Mysti : and only direct toward things or people within your sight
Mysti : now.. here is what you are to think on
Mysti : you are standing in the park it is a lovely day.. the sun is shining brightly down
Mysti : and you have the one you love standing next to you
Mysti : you will not love another human like you love her or him
Mysti : a robber comes up and before you can think or act your loved one lays dead at ur feet
Mysti : he is running away
Mysti : you have one chance
Mysti : you can do one of two things
Mysti : will you have revenge and let your loved one slip away
Mysti : or will you save the one you love
Mysti : do not answer now.. think it through
Mysti : next week i will ask you what you came up w/ and why
Mysti : please note your first feelings as well as the reasons you came to your decision
Mysti : that is the end of class.
Allan : thank you Mysti for class
EternalLighthouse : thank you
DraconicKnight : Clap clap clap clap clap
EternalLighthouse : very good class
starlight_myst : wonderfully done mysti thank you
