Mirror Points
The Inner Dimension
This 'new' system called Mirror points finds its roots in the Antiscion points used in the ancient astrology. Also the technique of the Arabic points, Nodes and Midpoints had its influence. Jan de Jong, a Dutch astrologer, combined these views and developed his new system in 1978.
The “birth chart” of the world and its supposed planet positions (Firmicus Maternus, 1551) became the basis for the calculation of these mirror points. The planets in Mundi theme are in the 15th degree of every sign founded on the thought that the middle point radiates the strongest energy. There is not much information about this Mirror point system but lots of professional astrologers in Holland have used its technique and because it is such a new technique years of experimenting will follow.
Having started my astrological study in Holland I was presented with this new technique and have used it ever since. Because of my fascination with the inner dimension of our being, our soul, I combined it to the chart as the fourth dimension.
In this new system the planets are mirrored around the 15th degree of its natural sign. For example the natural sign of the Sun is Leo and wherever the Sun is in the chart it will be mirrored around 15th degree Leo.
The cusps of the houses are mirrored around the 0 degree of its natural sign. For example the sign corresponding with the Ascendant is Aries, 2nd house Taurus etc. I personally only use the four important angles, Ascendant & Descendant, Midheaven & Imum Coeli.
It is possible to check your calculations. For example if the Sun is 9 degrees Virgo, the mirror point will be 21 degrees Cancer. The total of the two will always be 30.
The Inner Points
The Mirror points can be interpreted as the outer points, keeping in mind that they are a symbolical reflection of our inner reality while, for example, the natal positions reflections are of our outer reality. The inner positions represent the experience and knowledge the soul has already learned during its journey.
These points express themselves in a moon manner (memory and past are symbolised by the moon), which makes them more reflective and gives them intention or motivation. The outer planets express their influence more practically being in the “material” world.
Planets can represent a person and because the inner points are connected to the soul and thus the spirit world we could see them as our guidance or guides. We can never separate one aspect in a chart from another, we have to continue looking at the whole picture.
A summary of possiblities
Inner Sun
Represents the idealised image of the self we cherish. It is connected with our inner sense of how and if we can express ourselves. If the inner Sun is in conjunct with a natal planet the inner willpower can directly influence the outer “material” world. The inner Sun shows abilities we already have and we can express these corresponding its position in sign, house and aspects. The outer sun shows the path of experience the soul chooses for.
Inner Moon
We could see this as a super moon, full of memories and previous emotions. It represents our inner motif and our inner emotions on a deeper level. If an outer planet is in conjunct with the inner moon it can represent a deep emotional solidarity. The outer planet is then connected to our deepest roots.
Inner Mercury
We work in this system with two different sides of Mercury, the one connected to Gemini; communication, learning, objectivity etc. and Virgo; analysing, details, systemising, hygiene etc. With the inner mercury we are able to separate these different aspects of this planet. Both inner Mercury’s will always be opposite to each other, which shows the connection between the two sides. They represent the inner learning process with Gemini’s objectiveness collecting in formation and Virgo arranging the information and analysing it for its functionality. An important aspect of Mercury in general being the “messenger of the Gods” could make the inner points a messenger to our soul.
Inner Venus
Also with Venus we separate the connection to Libra and Taurus. Venus is the planet of love, connecting and sympathy. The Taurus side of Venus will show the talent to use once abilities and value and is searching for the practical connection. The Libra side will be our urge and ability to connect on the level of relationships.
Inner Mars
Mars affinity to our sense of adventure, every first approach and our initiative could make the inner point the souls challenge. The connection with the outer point can show us its nature and with Mars bravely pursuing its journey the soul could breakthrough boundaries.
Inner Jupiter
Jupiter traveling its path over these boundaries to circulate and collect knowledge could show the direction towards the higher wisdom enhancing the souls view.
Inner Saturn
Saturn could show the souls task and restrictions, holding on to old structures. Connection with the outer point could show the learning process and timing.
Inner Uranus
Being an outer planet and progressing slowly it is strongly connected to generation aspects. Uranus is searching for the freedom and identity and can show us the souls rebellious side.
Inner Neptune
Our connection with the universe and its inspiration shows us the souls compassion and sense of attachment. Longing for enlightenment the soul is prepared to sacrifice the human aspects of our being detaching from ego as such.
Inner Pluto
The souls passion and urge for transformation towards the theme chosen as life path. Connected to an outer point could channel this inner wish and drive.
Inner Ascendant & Midheaven, Descendant & Imum Coeli
The four angles show us how we can channel these inner drives. It is our connection to the outer world representing attitude, goal, connectiveness and deep inner roots.
Aspects
The only aspect I use for the mirror points is the conjunction. It is the strongest indicator for channeling the energies. With the timed movement of the natal points the inner points will change their position too. During progressions or transits the inner points could make contact with outer points.
In relationship astrology the connection of an inner point with the partners chart could show us what we often explain as soul mate. Or it shows us a person we were destined to meet to enable us to learn. Every person we meet in life represents something we have inside us.
