Kitchen & Life Tips
from the kitchen of GroomingGoddess
Note I made this for my sister and just figured I'd share what I knew here
Peppermint tea works well to settle an upset stomach
Valerian based tea is great for aiding sleep
Chamomile & Lavendar teas are a nice calming tea(s)
Cranberry Tea is great for cleansing the digestive track
Rose Hip tea is great for menstral Cramps
Gargle with salt water to help ease a sore throat
When ill-try Chamomil tea with Honey, a slice of lemon, and a few drops of echinacea
For sour stomachs, try 2/3c water with 1 T Lemon Juice
Butter and Margarine are always interchangable
Never allow meat to thaw on the counter-only in the refridgerator
Use paper towels when cleaning up after meat, because of them being tossable-it will reduce the risk of spreading bacteria (& in extreme cases Salmenella), I also reccomend an anti bacterial soap to follow immediately after any meat has touched the counter (esp. raw meat).
A little lemon juice and sugar help to increase the tastiness of Pancakes
A box of baking soda in the fridge or freezer helps to keep down odor
Always cover anyfood being stored in your fridge/freezer
Don't be afraid to half the amount in recipies
Turkey and chicken can often be substituted for each other in recipies.
Wood cutting boards are healthier
When dealing with pots/pans/plates/bowls... if you can't clean them right away it is better to let them soak in soapy water(esp when dealing with eggs, sauce,etc..) as it will cleanse easier. *Don't however let it sit longer than 24 hours unless you empty and refill the soaking water.
When cleaning out your fridge/freezer... When in doubt-Throw it out!
Putting a rolling pin the the freezer before use (esp marble ones) helps to prevent dough from sticking to it
Honey and sugar are interchangable in most recipies
To keep your joints workign well make sure you get enough MSM, Vitamin E, Vitamin B complex with C, Selenium, Betacarotene, Omega 3, Omega 6, and Glucosamine and Condroitin
Try not to eat before 6 am or after 8 pm for optimal digestion benefits
If Digestive problems still plague you after this, try a Digestive enzyme (Powdered or capsule vs. pill form) that is a whole food based & plant derived, taken with the largest meal of the day
Contrary to popular belief Breakfast is not the MOST inportant meal of the day
Jello is Great for joints, Fat Free and Easy to make
Water and Cranberry Juice are the best liquids for detoxing your system of impurities
Garlic helps fight High Cholesterol
St. John's wort is good for dealing with mood swings
Hydrogen Peroxyde when used on a stain immediately works quite well
Add cold white soda (or a flavor matching your jello flavor) instead of Water for an extra Zing
Powdered vitamins are more readily absorbed by the body than the compressed tablets
Don't be afraid to experiment with recipies and spices. Remember that some of the greatest recipies started out as accidents
Breakfast foods make great suppers, they are quick and easy
When you don't have access to bottled water... Try boiling and then cooling the water in your fridge or freezer... It tastes great. Helps to remove micro-organisms that would otherwise be able to flourish in the water (ie. crypto)
