From: Kotyangwuti (Original Message) Sent: 7/7/2003 4:26 PM The Shiva's wife was once disturbed by her husband as she was taking a bath. Annoyed, the goddess felt she should have servants to guard her door. She rubbed her body skin and with perfumed unguents molded the shape of a young boy. The boy was granted life and was named Ganesh. He was as glorious as daylight. The goddess ordered the boy to guard the front of her house. The child attempted to impede the great god from entering his home. Shiva, enraged, battled Ganesh and in the battle, Ganesh got his head cut off. Parvati was inconsolable. Shiva unable to find the child's head, grafted and elephant head onto the body and again gave hime life. In an attempt to to repair his big mistake and recognizing Ganesh as his own son he empowered him on all his servants and so became Ganapati.
