Be Honest in your Work
This simple sounding statement begs two important questions, both of which seem obvious but neither of which are!
1. What do you mean by "honest"?
2. What do you mean by "work"?
For most people it goes without saying that you should be honest in the work you do, that is, in your job or in your workplace. The meaning of "be honest in your work" though really doesn't refer directly to these things.
"Be honest" in this case does not mean, "don't tell lies to others" or "don't cheat others." The statement refers not to your relationships with others but to your relationship with yourself. Similarly, "Your work", does not refer directly to the work you do to earn a living. It means the work that you do on yourself, or on your own development, be it mental, spiritual, or physical.
At the end of the day we are what we make ourselves. We may say to others that we are "a Reiki Practitioner", or even more grandly, "a Reiki Master". Others may be very impressed to hear this. They may even pay money for a course or for a treatment. This may or may not work wonders for the ego. However only we know truly whether our self-imposed title is the truth or not.
Being honest in your work means admitting to yourself what is and is not honest in your Reiki practice. For example, repeating the reiki principles every day is a part of Reiki practice:
Repeating these principles morning and evening really can change your life. But they will do so only if you are honest with yourself in the way you conduct your practice.
Do you repeat them every day? How do you repeat them? Do you repeat them quickly three times, which probably takes about 90 seconds, or do you repeat them slowly, contemplating the meaning of each phrase as you say it?
"Repeating them quickly three times morning and night" is fast but it will change nothing in your life at all, except eventually you will get fed up of even that small demand on your time and give up because it is obvious that no changes have occurred.
And why should change occur? Just repeating "I am a millionaire" three times morning and night will not make it true even if you do it for your whole life. To be a millionaire you have to "think millionaire thoughts", "make millionaire preparations" and "set millionaire goals". You do this by contemplation and action, not just by mindless repetition.
So "repeating the principles slowly while contemplating the meaning of each phrase as you say it" makes the principles truly sink into your mind. They become not just something that you say twice a day but part of your daily life.
The same goes for the other elements of individual Reiki practice: breathing and meditation techniques and palm healing.
In Aikido it is said that the mind moves the body. I believe this to be true. Your beliefs and thoughts influence your actions and by doing so, the way that your life moves.
So, to put it briefly, "Be honest in your work" means "don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk too!"

Just for today
