To many, Reiki is synonymous with healing. The two words are often uttered together. "I want to be... / I am... a Reiki healer", "My reiki healing ability is improving" or, "I want to study Reiki so that I can heal people."
Reiki though is the power of the universe. It is Reiki that does the healing, not the practitioner.
The Reiki practitioner is absolutely necessary, but as the channeller of healing power not the director. The Reiki practitioner has absolutely no control over directing or manipulating the energy.
So then, Reiki can 'belong' to nobody and nobody can claim that "'my' Reiki ability is improving" or "'I' am a Reiki healer". The "I" and the "my" are marks of the ego wanting to control, wanting to "own" something.
Perhaps the word 'facilitator' or 'channeler' would be more appropriate to explain what a Reiki practitioner does.
The further a Reiki practitioner can step away from "ownership" of Reiki "ability", the purer channel he or she will be for Reiki.
