A Ritual for;
Planetary. Healing
by Maria Kay Simms
The sabbats are ideal times to
do rites of planetary healing,
as these are when the Sun resides
on the cardinal axes of the Earth,
synergizing the energy necessary
to life. This ritual of healing is especially effective at any or all of
the sabbats. 1
Below qre exact times for 2004 sabbats in the Eastern time zone
(EST is Eastern Standard Time; EDT is Daylight Saving Time).
Note:These times are based on actual planetary locations and may
not coincide with more generally accepted dates forsabbat holidays.
Winter Solstice/Yule:December21, 2003; 2:05 am EST
1mbolc:February 5,2004, 6:45 am EST
Spring Equinox/Ostara: March 20,2004, 1:50 am EST
Beltane: May 4, 2004, 11:50 pm EDT
Summer Solstice/Litha: June 20, 2004, 8:58 pm EDT
Lammas:-August 7,2004,12:08 am EDT
Fall Equinox/Mabon: September22,2004, 12:31 pm EDT
Samhain: November 6,2004, 8:47 pm EST
With only minor adaptations, this ritual will work for solitary
use or in groups. Work outdoors, or indoors with appropriate
caution in using candles.
Place candles on your altar at the four directions, and add
two altar candles; one silver or green for Goddess, the other gold
or yellow for God. On or near altar place a fan or large feather, a
red candle, a spray bottle of water, a container of soil, a container
of salt, a censer, and luminaries (tea candles in small paper cups).
Gather sound-makers for each element: tinkling bells for air, loud
a rattle for fire, a rainstick for water, a drum for earth. Use multiples
of twelve for the tea candles-one for each person involved.
Cast the circle according to your tradition, and speak as follows.
At this time of turning of the great wheel of the year, be reminded of
the eternal circle of life. The seeds of life germinate within, sprout,
grow stronger, bud, flower, fruit, ripen and fall. And so is the eternity
of nature. Everything is born again in a new form, at a new time.
Abundant is our Great Mother the Earth, warmed and energized by
Father Sun. But we are not appreciative. Our Mother's life-sustaining
environment is polluted and ravished. Her people fail to see that
we are all her:children and should work together for the good of all.
I charge that this sabbat rite be a magical act of healing. 0 Great
Mother Earth and Father Sun, bless and consecrate this circle. Let
the Spirit flow within. (Light the Goddess and God candles.)
As it is willed, so mote it be!
It is my (our) will and intent within this magical rite to heal
and protect the Earth, and to send energy of peace to all Earth~s
children, knowing full well this must begin within.
Power of air, our Mother's breath, blowfrom the east and bring
clarity. Bless this space and bless this rite; I (we) greet thee, blessed
be! (Wave the fan and ring bells once, in a sunwise direction
around the circle.)
power offire, our Mother's passion, flame from the south with
sPirit free. Bless this space and bless this rite; I (we) greet thee,
blessed be! (Carry the red candle and shake the rattle once, in
a sunwise direction around the circle.)
Power of water, our Mother's womb, flow from the west in dark
mystery. Bless this space and bless this rite. I (we) greet thee, blessed
be! (Spray water mist and turn the rains tick once, moving in
a sunwise direction around the circle.)
Power of earth, our Mother's body, sound from the north, evok--
ing stability. Bless this space and blfIss this rite. I (we) greet thee,
blessed be! Behold the earth (sift soil through your fingers), and
behold the heartbeat of the Mother (walk once sunwise around -
the circle while beating a steady heartbeat on the drum).
Pass the elemental symbols sunwise as each person speaks the
following promises. -
Direct my mind, 0 power of air, in ways to keep you clean and
free. I pledge to heal and serve you. This is my will, so mote it be!
Rouse my courage, power offire. Chargemy sPirit energy;with

Chargemy strength, 0 power of earth, to helPand heal, to grow
and seehow best to serve our Mother. This is my.will, so moteit be!
Now, chant the final words below as you light the tea
candle luminaries and place them in a circle around you.
Sing an appropriate song, or play meditative music as you
form the circle of light. Meditate within for a time. Groups
may wish to share experiences afterward.
We credte a spirit of peace with this circle of light,
Knowing full well in our hearts and souls
That peace begins with each of us.
May this magic ring of light
Send outward peaceful energy.
May it flow throughout theEarth, I
Healing and unifYing minds and hearts.
Peace to all Earth s children;
With light and love, so mote it be! ,
Before closing thank Mother Earth, Father Sun, and the
Guardians of the Watchtowers for their presence and assistance
in this rite.
