Sound Healing
Sound healing is based on the theory that all of creation is vibrational in nature and that it is possible to effect vibrational fields in a beneficial way through the conscious application of frequencies. This is called entrainmentÂE Musician and sound healer Jonathan Goldman, in his book Healing Sounds, describes entrainment as the ability of the more powerful rhythmic vibrations of one object to change the less powerful rhythmic vibrations of another object and cause them to synchronize their rhythms with the first object. This principle provides the foundation for the sound healer's work. Sound healers use a number of tools to assist them, including soundscapes music, rhythm instruments, flutes, didgeridus, Tibetan bells, tuning forks and crystal bowls. Perhaps no instrument is more powerfully effective than the human voice.
The human voice conveys the vibration of who we are, what we feel and all that we have experienced. Embedded in the voice are frequencies that stimulate the electromagnetic field of the body and activate the flow of chi in the personal and transpersonal energy fields. The voice has the ability to vibrate us not only from the outside to the inside, but also from the inside to the outside. So when we sing, chant or tone, a sound wave is produced that affects the world around us. And because of the physiological way the sound is produced, the wave also affects the world within us.
When that sound wave is combined with conscious thought, the voice becomes an extraordinary tool for transformation and manifestation. French musician and sound healer Fabien Maman in his book, The Role of Music in the Twenty-First Century, uses Kirlian photography to document the effect of the voice combined with prayer. When applied to a cell of cotton, the life force in the electromagnetic field of the cell literally lights up. Recent studies done in Japan by Dr. Masaru Emoto and documented in his book, The Message From Water, examine the effects of music and word on water and demonstrate the healing power of prayer.
In sound healing sessions, the healers consciously utilize their instrument of choice with a focus on creating a healing environment for the client. A sound healing session may begin with the client lying on a massage table. The healer may chant over the client's body or place tuning forks on specific places on the meridians, similar to acupuncture. Some sound healers sing directly into the client's body, producing an effect that the client can feel from head to toe.
Another type of sound healing session may involve the client using his or her own voice in a consciously focused manner as directed by the healer. Clients find this type of session to be very empowering as they use their own voice to heal themselves.
Benefits of both types of sessions are wide ranging. Besides relaxation, a sound healing treatment may provide pain relief, lower blood pressure, balance brain wave activity, reduce stress hormones and may play a part in the resolution of many physical, emotional and spiritual conditions. Sound healing can be useful for anyone with an acute or chronic illness. Those who are consciously moving through an emotional or spiritual healing process would also find sound healing to be especially helpful.
Sound healing accesses the essential core of our being affecting the vibration of all that we are and all that we wish to be. Sound healing is a wonderful complement to other healing modalities and it stands on its own in its powerful contribution to the client's overall state of health and well-being.
